Footage taken from on board a helicopter over Hawaii’s Kilauea shows lava fountaining out from fissures and volcanic gases blowing downwind.
Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
According to the US Geological Survey, the eruption which began on June 3 has paused but the situation “remains dynamic and could change quickly”.
The fissure system spewing lava extends approximately .6 miles (1 km) in length. The USGS described the eruption as having a ‘low in eruptive volume’ and taking place in a remote location, posing no immediate threat to human life or critical infrastructure.
