At least 2,800 people have been evacuated after a volcano erupted in the Philippines.
The eruption at Mount Kanlaon, on the Philippine island of Negros, lasted for six minutes last night, spewing volcanic ash and rock and spewing smoke up to 5km, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

Authorities in the town of Canlaon, in the eastern province of Negros Island, ordered residents in areas near the volcano to leave their homes and announced the closure of all non-essential businesses.
Authorities also canceled several flights to and from Bacolod airport, which is closest to the volcano in the island’s capital.
