At least 22,000 people at risk after dam attack in Kherson, Ukraine


At least 22,000 people living across 14 settlements in the Russian-controlled Kherson region are at risk of flooding due to this morning’s dam attack, the Moscow-installed head of the region has said.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed up to 80 settlements are at risk.

Evacuations of areas around the Kakhovka dam on the Dnipro River have already begun, with a Ukrainian official earlier warning that there were just five hours until the water hit a “critical level”.

The water level around the dam was up by five metres, with several downstream islands already entirely flooded, Russian state-owned news agency RIA reported, citing local authorities
